The commonly used tool used for changing the looks of the floor is ceramic tiles. But before installation, study the type of floor since some floors are made of asbestos which is a leading cause of lung cancer. Take precaution by using a gas mask so that you do not breathe in the fiber particles. Carrying goggles and leather gloves can act as protection for eyes and hands respectively.

Also, you need other tools like a square that is mainly used by carpenters, a tape measure, and a bubble level. Slate cutter, a notched trowel, sealant, grout, and a puff knife are also essential. With these tools ready, the next step is to begin the job.

Ceramic is not just put on any floor. When the surface is made up of plywood immediately underneath the flooring, placing the tiles will require a preparation of a membrane to separate the plywood and the slate. Any subflooring that is made of any hardwood should be able to support the ceramic. For most people, when concrete is the subflooring, the work becomes easier. Take time to prepare the area immediately below flooring since if not done carefully the tiles will break.

Having completed the subflooring, the next steps are marking the cover at the center then making measurements across the room starting from the mark, in all directions. This will be achieved with the help of a tape measure, and the purpose is to have a starting point where installation can start. Lay the first shingle on the mark.

Before placing the first tile, using the notched trowel apply mortar at the back of it and carefully put it on the floor. Twist your arm while using force against the tile to make it firmer and attached to the floor. If not well placed, gaps will be left beneath it which will make it break or crack whenever a lot of weight is applied to it.

Some adhesive will escape through the sides when twisting the slate to level it with the ground. Use a piece of cloth to wipe it off before dying. Repeat what has been done to the first pantile to all pantiles till the whole floor gets covered.

The first slate is the only one that has issue placing. The others are easy to install and within no time you are done. Apply mixed cement in the spaces between the slates and allow it to dry. Then cover the floor.
