A lot of people have had a rough childhood with family members leaving them. This sticks with them. They like to be in control, usually having a co-dependency relationship.

This helps them to stay focused on the task ahead. Having a good connection with the therapist is obviously important because the individual needs to feel comfortable in this safe environment. They need to feel confident revealing what is on their heart, which often involves a lot of vulnerable information.
